Ah spring. Hello! I’m sooo glad you’re here. I thought that now the chill factor is lifting ever so slightly I would take a little time to talk about engagement shoots, and what to wear. I thought it would be a good time as next week we meet our wedding photographer for ours. And even though I am a tad nervous – being on the other side of the camera – I’m looking forward to it.

It feels likes wedding planning can get a little bit, well, just planning for a while. But the engagement shoot is where we actually get to do something, that and tasting the menu. I’m pretty excited about that as well. I get asked quite a lot – what should we wear for our shoot? And I always come back with the first thing being something comfortable. And by that, I mean something that makes you feel comfortable. But also that looks good. No, scrap that – wear something that makes you feel pretty damn good.

I’m going this week to buy myself something new. Because I want it to feel like an experience.  I know the more I bring to it – the more I will get out.  I’m going for heels. Something that it going to give me a waist. Oh and I’m getting my nails done because that always makes me feel good.

As a photographer I want to create images for you that make you look good and feel good. So I thought I would throw together a few tips that I think make for a good engagement shoot look.

1. Wear something that is comfortable. Be true to yourself.

2. Match your season. But think outside the box. If it’s cold- can you wear layers, or include a belt to show off your waist instead of a bulky coat?

3. What makes you feel good? For me it’s getting my nails done. Or taking extra time over my hair.

4. Having a make-up trail – how about get it done before your shoot?

5. Dress up. Have fun! There is a good chance this may be your first shoot where you are the main focus. You’re going to love  your pictures and be showing them all over the place, so give yourself a treat and get a little fancy.

6. Complement each other. I would avoid matchy matchy. Dress on the same scale. If one is getting a little fancy – try get the other to as well. Have the conversation beforehand.

7. Avoid logos. They can be too apparent sometimes on your photo’s, and can date quickly so if possible, leave them out.

8.Play to your location. We are having ours in a tiny little white washed town and near the sea, so I’m going for a bit of a boho style. Think suedes, loose hair & kaftans. Or maybe blues, denim and something white. I’m still undecided. But I’m definitely playing dress up.

These are by no means, the rules you have to stick to, but more things to have a little think over before hand.

Happy Monday!! x
