Nutritionist Branding Shoot
A massive perk of my job (and I know I’ve said this more than once before!) is that I get to meet women who are running all sorts of fascinating businesses. Every shoot is a little window into their world. One week I might be photographing a coach, the next a designer, and then a nutritionist, a florist, or even a lawyer who’s left corporate life to go solo. It never gets boring because I’m constantly learning something new. That’s one of the reasons I love branding photography so much: it’s not just about creating pretty images, it’s about capturing the essence of someone’s business and telling their story in a way that feels both professional and personal.
When Catherine, a newly qualified nutritionist, reached out to me for a branding shoot, I was immediately excited. Not only because I knew I’d enjoy photographing her, but because nutrition is a subject that I’m personally really invested in. Over the past year, I’ve thrown myself into learning more about food, health, and how what we eat impacts everything from our energy to our mood. As a mum and a business owner, I need to feel good in order to keep all the plates spinning, so the idea of photographing Catherine while getting a little insight into her world felt like a real bonus. It was very much a win–win situation.
Catherine has recently completed her degree to become a certified nutritionist, which is such a huge achievement in itself. Starting out in business is always exciting but also a little daunting, and she knew she needed visuals that would reflect her professionalism from day one. She didn’t want to be relying on stock images or quick phone snaps — she wanted something cohesive, polished, and flexible that she could use across all of her platforms. That’s where branding photography comes in.
The aim was to create a library of images that would help her launch with confidence. She wanted pictures for her website, for her social media channels, and also for any educational resources she was going to create. That meant we had to think strategically: the images needed to be versatile enough to be cropped portrait and landscape, with space for text overlays where needed. We also wanted to make sure they clearly communicated her role as a nutritionist, so there were shots of her at her desk, working with books and notes, and some more lifestyle-led images to bring warmth and relatability to her brand.
We shot the whole session in her home using natural light, which kept everything relaxed and authentic. You don’t always need a big studio to get professional results — in fact, I often find that being in someone’s own space makes the images feel more genuine. It also means we can move around quickly, using different rooms and backdrops to create variation. To maximise the time, Catherine had prepared several outfit changes, which is always a great idea for branding shoots. By simply switching outfits, adding a blazer, or changing the background, we were able to create the feel of multiple mini-shoots within the hour.
Another element we added was video. Even just a few short clips can make such a difference to a website, adding movement and a more dynamic feel. For Catherine, these little snippets will help potential clients see her personality and approach in action, which is so important in a field that’s built on trust and connection.
In just one hour, we built an image vault that Catherine can now dip into whenever she needs content. Instead of worrying about what to post or scrambling for a headshot, she has a ready-made gallery of images that show her as approachable, knowledgeable, and professional. That’s the power of branding photography — it gives you not just photos, but confidence, clarity, and consistency for your business.
Here are some of the results from our time together: all shot in natural light, at home, in just an hour. Proof that with a little planning and creativity, you can create something really special that sets your business apart right from the start.
