When I first started getting serious with the idea of photography, my dad helped me with my first purchase. I got an Olympus Kit Lens, and I loved it! Anything that moved, got my attention, as well as anything that didn’t. I used anyone who would get in front of my lens, and used it for my very first wedding. As time moved on, so did I. And I currently shoot with a Canon 5D Mark2. One thing that I get asked quite a lot is what lens do you use, so today I thought that I would share.

My full kit is a Canon 70-200mm, Canon 28-200mm, Canon 85mm, Canon 35mm and the Sigma 50mm.

Sigma 50mm

One of my favourites. I like to shoot wide open, so this lens is perfect for me, and I love the finish that it gives. This lens I would use 75% of a wedding day. With it being a prime, it can handle low light scenarios, is nice and fast and gives me the finish for my signature style.

Canon 70-200 L series.

This is definitely a wedding work horse.  This is great for given me that nice wide open finish but allows me to keep my distance when needed and allows me to get some great candid’s without being obtrusive.

Canon 85mm

Definitely a beautiful portrait lens, and again with it being a prime allows me to shoot wide and is fast. This isn’t the lens I use the most, but is great for getting beautiful portraits and details without having to be as close at the 50mm.

Canon 35mm

This is such a great little lens. It is fab for scene setting shots, groups, and when you need to get just that little more into your frame. This along with the 50mm are the lens’ I would take to travel as well.

Canon 28-200

This lens is used for wide shots of scenes – venues etc, and large group shots. It doesn’t come out to play all day at weddings, but definitely has it purpose.

What lens do you use and what is your favourite?

Happy Monday.
